Description

When performed, the user surrounds himself in a powerful fiery aura of chaos energy (whose known color can be either blue or yellow) before flying into their target at incredible speed, resulting in a rather devastating impact that can stun creatures as large as Perfect Dark Gaia.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost is used to attack opponents or objects by ramming into them. Performing the Super Sonic Boost also appears to make the user unaffected by attacks in certain situations: as seen in the Sonic Advance series and the Sonic Rush series, the Super Sonic Boost allows the user to pass harmlessly through most attacks without any side effect. In recent games, the Super Sonic Boost can also attract nearby Rings, similar to Boost. Also, when used in regular Stages, the Super Sonic Boost works like a bolstered version of the Boost.

Game appearances

Sonic Adventure 2

The Super Sonic Boost made its debut in Sonic Adventure 2 and its remake Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, where it is used by Super Sonic and Super Shadow during the Finalhazard boss battle. In this game, the Super Sonic Boost appears as an energy field in front of the users when executed. Another thing worth noting is that Sonic's Super Sonic Boost is blue, while Shadow's is yellow.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost is a short-ranged offensive dash whose direction the player can control. It can be used to gain a boost in speed and attack the boils on the Finalhazard. To use the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player has to press DreamcastB.png/A Button GameCube v2.png/PSXButton.png/XboxA.png.

Sonic Advance series

Sonic Advance

The Super Sonic Boost, from Sonic Advance.

In Sonic Advance, the Super Sonic Boost is used exclusively by Super Sonic during the Super Egg Robot boss battle in the Moon Zone. In this game, the technique take the form of a flaming aura that surrounds Super Sonic as he moves forward.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost is a short-ranged offensive dash that is used to damage the Super Egg Robot and its capsules. In addition, the move can be used by the player to pass through certain attacks from the Super Egg Robot without any side effect. To perform it in gameplay, the player has to press GameboyB.png.

Sonic Advance 2

The Super Sonic Boost, from Sonic Advance 2.

In Sonic Advance 2, the Super Sonic Boost is used only by Super Sonic during the final boss battle in True Area 53. In this game, the technique looks exactly like how it was in Sonic Advance.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost is a short-ranged offensive dash whose direction the player can control. Like in Sonic Advance, it also allows the player to pass through certain attacks without any side effect. In this game, it is used to knock missiles from the final boss back at it (which is the only way to damage the final boss). To perform the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player must press GameboyB.png/GameboyA.png.

Sonic Advance 3

The Super Sonic Boost, from Sonic Advance 3.

In Sonic Advance 3, the Super Sonic Boost can only be performed by Super Sonic during the battle against Ultimate G-merl in Nonaggression. In this game, the technique looks exactly like how it was in Sonic Advance and Sonic Advance 2.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost has the same attributes it had in Sonic Advance 2. In this game, it is used to attack Ultimate G-merl's eye after it has been opened by Super Sonic and Dr. Eggman's Tag Action. To perform the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player must press GameboyB.png/GameboyA.png.

Sonic Rush series

Sonic Rush

The Super Sonic Boost, from Sonic Rush.

In Sonic Rush, the Super Sonic Boost is a move only Super Sonic can use during the Egg Salamander boss battle in Exception. In this game, the Super Sonic Boost takes the form of a yellow, cone-shaped aura with white sparkles that surrounds Super Sonic.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost is a medium-ranged offensive dash whose direction the player can control. It is used to blast through the meteors that appear during the early stages of Exception and knock drones from the Egg Salamander back at it (which is the only way to damage the Egg Salamander). In addition, the move can be used by the player to pass through certain attacks from the Egg Salamander without any side effect. To perform the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player must press WiiDSA.png/DSB.png.

Sonic Rush Adventure

The Super Sonic Boost, from Sonic Rush Adventure.

In Sonic Rush Adventure, the Super Sonic Boost is a technique used exclusively by Super Sonic in Deep Core during the battle with the Egg Wizard. In this game, the Super Sonic looks exactly like how it was in Sonic Rush.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost works just like it did in Sonic Rush. It is mainly used to shoot through the meteors that appear early on through Deep Core and to avoid or dash harmlessly through attacks from the Egg Wizard. To perform the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player must press WiiDSA.png/DSB.png.

Sonic Riders series

Sonic Riders

The Super Sonic Boost, from Sonic Riders.

In Sonic Riders, the Super Sonic Boost is a move Sonic can pull off while transformed into Super Sonic via the Chaos Emerald Extreme Gear. In this game, the Super Sonic Boost appears as a simple pulsating energy field that emit in front of Super Sonic.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost gives Super Sonic a boost in speed and allows him to both plow through obstacles and attack opposing racers without slowing down. However, each usage of the Super Sonic Boost subtracts twenty Rings from the player's Ring count (which sustains the Super Sonic transformation). In addition, attacking opposing racers with the Super Sonic Boost costs ten additional Rings for each hit. To use the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player just has to use the Air Boost while transformed into Super Sonic.

Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity

The Super Sonic Boost, from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity (with the Magnetic Barrier active).

In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Sonic is able to perform the Super Sonic Boost while he has assumed his Super State. In this game, the Super Sonic Boost is a blue energy field that appears in front of Super Sonic while he is using this move.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost is engaged automatically whenever Super Sonic collects sixty Rings. While performing the Super Sonic Boost, Super Sonic is constantly moving at 180 Speed and can crash through obstacles and barricades without slowing down. Once the Super Sonic Boost is engaged, however, Super Sonic cannot disengage it until he de-transforms. It also causes Super Sonic's decreasing Ring count (which sustains Sonic's Super State) to decrease at an even faster rate.

Sonic Free Riders

The Super Sonic Boost, from Sonic Free Riders.

In Sonic Free Riders, Sonic can perform the Super Sonic Boost while his Chaos Emeralds Extreme Gear has him transformed into Super Sonic. In this game, the Super Sonic Boost simply consists of Super Sonic flying forward while leaving a faint golden energy trail.

When initiating the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, Sonic will constantly be moving at 200 Speed. He is also invulnerable, can barge through obstacles, and can pull off high-ranking tricks with ease. However, using the Super Sonic Boost causes Super Sonic's Ring count (which sustains the Super Sonic state) to decrease by three-to-four Rings every second it is active. Also, the Super Sonic Boost will only disengage when Sonic reverts back to normal. To trigger the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player must perform the Kick Dash while as Super Sonic.

Sonic Unleashed

The Super Sonic Boost, from the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed.

In the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed, the Super Sonic Boost is used by Super Sonic during the Perfect Dark Gaia boss battle. In this version of the game, the Super Sonic Boost takes the form of a fiery, yet smooth energy field that surrounds Sonic like a comet.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost works like a mid-air version of the Sonic Boost; as such, while using it, the player can draw in nearby Rings. However, unlike the Sonic Boost, it does not rely on a Ring Energy Gauge to power it, and can be used indefinitely. It is primarily used to gain a boost in speed and to attack the snake-like things around Perfect Dark Gaia's force-field where, in the latter case, it automatically targets them when they are nearby, as in Sonic Adventure 2. To perform the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player must press XboxX.png/PSSquareButton.png. Also, while executing the series of Real-Time Interactions at the end of the battle with Perfect Dark Gaia, Super Sonic will use the Super Sonic Boost to attack each of Perfect Dark Gaia's hands.

The Super Sonic Boost, from the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed.

In the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed, the Super Sonic Boost is used only by Super Sonic during the boss battle with Perfect Dark Gaia. It is also in this version of the game that the move is referred to by name. In this version if the game, the Super Sonic Boost is a flaming aura that surrounds Super Sonic as he charges forward.

In gameplay, the player can only initiate the Super Sonic Boost if the player is in possession of ten Rings or more while having Perfect Dark Gaia's eyes in sight (which is indicated by a red reticle appearing above Perfect Dark Gaia's eyes). When executing this move however, the player loses ten Rings from their Ring count. Also, while using the Super Sonic Boost, the player must guide Super Sonic towards Perfect Dark Gaia's eyes without getting hit by meteors along the way; if Super Sonic gets hit by a meteor, the Super Sonic Boost will be canceled out, and the player must start over with targeting Perfect Dark Gaia. To perform the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player must execute the following actions while locked onto one of Perfect Dark Gaia's eyes with the appropriate amount of Rings in their possession:

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

The Super Sonic Boost, from the console version of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.

In Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, the Super Sonic Boost appears as a part of Sonic's All-Star Move. When using this move, Sonic turns into Super Sonic, who is able to use the Super Sonic Boost. In this game, the Super Sonic takes the form of a faint energy fields that appears in front of Super Sonic while a golden energy trail follows him.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost grants the player a brief boost in speed. It also allows Sonic to topple over any opposing racer he boosts into. To perform this move in gameplay, the player has to press the configured Item button while using Sonic's All Star Move.

Sonic Colors

The Super Sonic Boost, from the Wii version of Sonic Colors.

In the Wii version of Sonic Colors, and the remaster Sonic Colors: Ultimate, the Super Sonic Boost can be used by Sonic while he is transformed into Super Sonic during regular Acts. In these games, the Super Sonic Boost take the form of multi-colored waves that appear on both sides of Super Sonic when he uses the move.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost has all the traits of the regular Boost, including its ability to draw in Rings. Unlike the Boost however, Super Sonic can sustain the Super Sonic Boost indefinitely due to his Boost Gauge having unlimited energy. To trigger the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player has to press one of the following buttons:

Wii Remote + Nunchunk Wii Remote Sideways Wii (Classic Controller) Wii (GameCube Controller) Xbox One PS4 Switch PC
WiiB.png Button1.png b Button SNNBGAMECUBEDISCO.png

The Super Sonic Boost, from the Nintendo DS version of Sonic Colors.

In the Nintendo DS version of Sonic Colors, the Super Sonic Boost is a technique that Super Sonic can use during the boss battle with the Nega-Mother Wisp. In this version of the game, the Super Sonic Boost starts out as a yellow and blue arrow-shaped energy cone that surrounds Super Sonic when it is triggered, before turning into a multi-colored aura that surrounds Super Sonic as he boosts forward.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost is used to knock meteors back at Nega-Mother Wisp in other to disable her arms. It can also draw in Rings. To perform the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player has to hold down Snnwiidsybuttondisco.png to charge it and then release Snnwiidsybuttondisco.png to unleash it. Once both of Nega-Mother Wisp's arms are disabled, Super Sonic will then enter a Super Sonic Boost and begin charging at Nega-Mother Wisps in order to attack her weak point. For some reason, Super Sonic's Ring consumption stops completely during this phase. However, the Super Sonic Boost will get canceled out during this phase if Super Sonic gets hit by Nega-Mother Wisp's lasers or red energy balls.

Sonic Generations

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, the Super Sonic Boost is used by both Classic Super Sonic and Modern Super Sonic while fighting the Time Eater. It can also be used by Modern Super Sonic during regular Acts. In this version of the game, the Super Sonic Boost looks like its Sonic Unleashed counterpart. To trigger it in gameplay, the player has to press PSSquareButton.png/XboxX.png.

During the battle with the Time Eater on the console/PC version, the Super Sonic Boost works like an airborne Boost and is capable of drawing in Rings, just like in the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed. In addition, it can be used definitely. In gameplay, it is mainly used to chase after the Time Eater and to charge into its weak point. Also, at the end of the fight, Classic and Modern Super Sonic will use a combined Super Sonic Boost during a Real-Time Interaction to finish off the Time Eater.

The Super Sonic Boost during regular Acts, from the console/PC version of Sonic Generations.

In regular Acts on the console/PC version, where Modern Super Sonic is playable through the Super Sonic Skill, the Super Sonic Boost works like a regular Boost, except it can be used without limit due to the Boost Gauge having unlimited energy while Sonic is Super Sonic. However, in an area where progression is linear, activating the Super Sonic Boost will cause Modern Super Sonic to fly down the fastest route to the end of the Act at incredible speeds. This also causes the player's ring count (which sustains Super Sonic's transformation) to drain at a faster rate than normal (about eight Rings per second).

The Super Sonic Boost, from the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations.

In the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations, the Super Sonic Boost is used only by Modern Super Sonic during his segments of the boss fight with the Time Eater. Other than that, its looks like the Super Sonic Boost from Sonic Unleashed. Like its console/PC counterpart, it works like a flying Boost on this version and can be used infinitely.

In the gameplay of the 3DS version of the game, the Super Sonic Boost is used to reach the Time Eater while dodging obstacles and attacks. To use it in gameplay, the player has to press ButtonIcon-3DS-Y.png.

Sonic Lost World

The Super Sonic Boost, from the Wii/PC version of Sonic Lost World.

In the Wii U version and PC version of Sonic Lost World, the Super Sonic Boost is a move that Sonic can use while transformed into Super Sonic in regular Zones. When using the technique in this game, it takes the form of a fiery energy field in front of Super Sonic, who leaves a golden streak behind him as he boosts forward.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost works essentially like the Spin Dash in the game, except that this move is faster and can also be used for as long as the player wants. To perform the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player must press the following buttons:

Wii U PC (keyboard) PC (Xbox 360 controller) PC (Xbox One controller)
WiiU-Button-ZL.png

Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

In Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, Super Sonic performs the Super Sonic Boost whenever the Super Sonic Form power-up is used.

Sonic Forces

The Super Sonic Boost, from Sonic Forces.

In Sonic Forces, Modern Sonic can use the Super Sonic Boost in non-boss Stages while he is transformed into Super Sonic. In this game, the Super Sonic Boost is almost identical to how it appeared in Sonic Lost World, the only difference being its frontal energy field, which is now smaller and engulfs more of Super Sonic.

In gameplay, the Super Sonic Boost works much like the Boost in this game. Unlike the Boost however, the Super Sonic Boost can draw in Rings. In addition, it can be used indefinitely since the Boost Gauge will have unlimited energy for as long as Modern Sonic is Super Sonic. To perform the Super Sonic Boost in gameplay, the player must press Switch y.png/PSSquareButton.png/X button.png.

Variants

Arrow of Light

The Arrow of Light, is an augmented version of the Super Sonic Boost. When performing it, Super Sonic absorbs blue light to increase the attack's speed and power. It first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

Burning Fire Boost

The Burning Fire Boost is Burning Blaze's equivalent of the Super Sonic Boost. When performing this move, Burning Blaze surrounds herself in an aura of intense flames and rams her target, just like the Super Sonic Boost. It first appeared in Sonic Rush.

Bolt of lightning

The bolt of lightning is a high-speed variant of the Super Sonic Boost. It gives the user an aura, but it cannot be activated manually. The only way to induce it, is by reaching high speeds. It first appeared in Sonic Adventure.

Super Sonic Missile

The Super Sonic Missile is a collaboration attack between Modern and Classic Super Sonic. When performing it, both classic and modern Sonic Super charge up power before shooting Modern Super Sonic forward with an enlarged aura enveloping him. It first appeared in the console/PC version of Sonic Generations.

Trivia

  • The apparent drawback of the Super Sonic Boost seems to be that it requires a significant amount of energy to be performed. As seen in Sonic Unleashed (Wii/PlayStation 2), the Sonic Riders series, and Sonic Generations, performing the Super Sonic Boost tends to drain Sonic's ring count significantly faster, thereby shortening the time he can maintain his super transformation, however these are only applied on these games.
